On December 31, 2011 I will be arriving in Israel for a 2 month visit. I'll be living right in the heart of Tel Aviv, and I'll be travelling around the country as well.
The last time I spent more than a few days in Israel was in 1964-65, when I was a student at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem - the first year that such a program was implemented particularly for North American students who wanted to spend their junior year abroad. It was a most stimulating year, which left me with a great respect and admiration for what Israel stood for and was trying to accomplish. I know that it was a long time ago, and that both Israel and I have changed a lot in the intervening years.
It's my intention to experience and explore as much as I can, particularly with regard to daily life, culture and the arts. I want to stay away from political commentary, though I recognize that it's impossible to talk about present day Israel without referring to politics. I want to share with you the Israel I will see through my eyes.
I invite you to join me in this voyage of discovery.
